Welcome

Iconer/Icons includes more than 600 images from photographer Larsåke Thuresson’s archive of 65 000 pictures. From the early 1960s until the mid-‘70s, Larsåke took pictures of rock and pop artists, 100 of them touring from abroad and 200 home-grown Sweden stars. Scores of the photos were published in weekly magazines and many had another life on the covers of singles and LPs.

There are unique shots of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Tom Jones, Janis Joplin, Cher, Birgit Nilsson, Cornelis Vreeswijk, Björn and Benny and Ted Gärdestad, many in unusual settings.

Biographies and extensive captions are complemented by eight essays: from former government minister with several portfolios Leif Pagrotsky, legendary radio voice Lennart Wretlind, fashion guru Lotta Lewenhaupt, curator and photography scholar Niclas Östlind Ph.D., writer, educator, lecturer and creative director Bo Bergström, essayist on culture and entertainment Håkan Lahger, and music producer and writer Bengt Palmers.

Ikoner/Icons is a comprehensive time capsule from the decades that never died, and is ideal for anyone interested in photography and pop music.
